Thinking of writing a letter or speaking at the public hearing? Below are a few talking points that you may find relevant to help frame and vocalize your support of the vision that is Lakeside Norway:
-We purchased this commercial property over our concern that over the past 25 years had fallen into disrepair, where stormwater runoff was causing significant unchecked erosion and was polluting the lake, as it had been identified as a “brownfield” site;
-We didn’t want to see the six acre property privatized and turned into condos for a limited few;
-what we’re proposing is an environmentally conscious place for all to enjoy, where the old historic canning facility and lumber mill areas are renovated and the landscape gets reborn in innovative ways that enhance its natural beauty and ecological relationship to the lake for the entire community to enjoy;
-Under our stewardship, this project will provide protection against further deterioration of the historic buildings and the lakeshore, stop unchecked pollution from entering into our watershed, as well as contribute to the rebuilding of a healthy lake ecology;
-Three (or more) locally-owned businesses seek to occupy its buildings and utilize its outdoor spaces to contribute to a better economy and give back to our community;
-We understand that sound and lighting will be key issues. From the outset, we want to be good neighbors as well as stewards of the lake. Mitigating sound and light have always been concerns of ours;
-There will be noise and you’ll be able to hear it, but it won’t be that of lumber trucks or canning machinery…it’ll be the sound of outdoor live music, joyful cheering, clapping, and even laughter!
-As a commercial property for over 140 years, it is located next to two other commercial establishments—an active marina and a popular restaurant known for its outdoor dining, overlooking the lake, where bands often play;
-In terms of lighting, we’re committed to showcasing low-voltage energy-efficient LED accent lighting, which will have minimal impact on neighbors, have little or no effect on the lake, but still provide the appropriate safety and security for the property.
Stay tuned for more of the lowdown on Lakeside Norway!
Cheers,
Jason
